About National Dental Commission

The National Dental Commission (NDC), established under the NDC Act, 2023, is steadfast in its
commitment to fostering a transparent, progressive, and efficient regulatory ecosystem for dental education
and practice across the country. The Commission’s key priorities include streamlining and rationalizing
regulatory processes, enhancing the quality and capacity of dental education, aligning with national oral
healthcare objectives, and promoting the adoption of innovative and contemporary approaches in dental
sciences.
The NDC envisions the development of a system that nurtures academic excellence, upholds
ethical dental practice, and ensures that dental professionals are well-equipped to meet the evolving oral
healthcare needs of society. Emphasis is being placed on competency-based education, integration of
modern teaching methodologies, and continuous professional development to align Indian dental education
with global best practices.
To improve the quality of end product i.e. well trained doctors there is need of changing the
available assessment pattern of dental schools with more emphasis on quality of training, adequate clinical
material, research and clinical output.
There is also a need of making reforms in BDS and MDS curriculum as well as improving quality of
dental training and to make our curriculum at par with the developed countries of world enabling our dental
graduates to compete globally as well as to invite students from other countries for seeking admissions in
our dental schools. The ultimate aim is to create service oriented properly trained nationalist dental
surgeons dedicated to serve the nation and humanity with focus on providing oral health care to
underserved, rural and tribal population.
The Commission recognizes that meaningful and sustainable reform can only be achieved through
the collective efforts of all stakeholders – dental institutions, faculty, students, practitioners, and regulatory
bodies. Accordingly, the NDC seeks active collaboration, constructive feedback, and continuous
engagement from all concerned to realize these shared goals.
